29-Minute Delivery Explained: How Quick Commerce Actually Works

Fast delivery is not magic and it is not a warehouse trick. It is a sequence of small decisions taken in the right order. Here is exactly what happens in the 29 minutes between your tap and your doorbell, and what makes an order slower or faster.

1.Minute 0-2: choosing the right shop

The moment you check out, the system looks for shops that are open, verified, within delivery range of your address, and carrying enough stock of every item in your basket. The shop your products were listed from is preferred, but nearby shops can also be offered so that a single closed counter does not block your order.

Stock is reserved at this point. That reservation is what stops two customers buying the last packet of bread at the same time.

2.Minute 2-10: acceptance and packing

The shop sees the order with its items, quantities and payment status, and accepts it. For online payments, a shop can only accept after the payment has actually been captured, which protects both sides.

The shop then packs and marks the order ready. Packing is the step most people underestimate โ€” weighing loose vegetables and bagging fragile items honestly takes minutes, and rushing it is what causes wrong-weight complaints.

3.Minute 10-25: rider assignment and the road

Only a ready order becomes a delivery job. Nearby available delivery partners see it, and one accepts. A rider can hold only one active order at a time, so your order is never sitting behind three other drops.

From then on you can track the rider live on the map: rider to shop before pickup, then shop to your address after pickup, with the road route, distance and ETA updating as they move.

4.Minute 25-29: the doorstep

For cash on delivery, you pay the rider the exact amount shown. For prepaid orders, you share a six-character delivery code that the rider enters to close the order. No code, no completion.

Once delivered, live tracking ends, loyalty points are credited, and the order moves to your history with its full timeline.

5.Why an ETA sometimes slips

Rain, peak-hour traffic, gated-community entry rules, an unreachable phone, or a large basket that takes longer to pack are the four or five real reasons orders run late. Genuine stock shortfalls are the other.

The honest answer is that 29 minutes is a typical target, not a guarantee, and the tracking screen always shows the current truth rather than the original promise.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my order say 'waiting for shop'?

The order has been placed and offered to nearby shops, but no shop has accepted it yet. If nobody accepts within the shown window, the order is cancelled automatically and any payment is refunded.

What is the delivery code?

It is a unique six-character code shown on your prepaid order. The rider must enter it to mark the order delivered, which prevents false delivery claims.

Can I track the rider before pickup?

Yes. Tracking starts as soon as a rider accepts, so you can see them travelling to the shop and then to you.

Why did my order go to a different shop?

Because the original shop was closed or short on stock, and a nearby shop had everything. Prices may differ slightly between shops.

Is 29 minutes guaranteed?

No. It is the typical delivery time for a nearby order. Distance, weather and traffic change it.
